Staff Biography

The Congregation of the Sisters of the Mother of God (CMD) was founded by Bishop Mark Pivarunas, CMRI, in 1993. The chief apostolate of the Congregation is to aid parish priests in the care of souls. The Congregation rule is a blend of the contemplative and active religious life. The Sisters pray the Divine Office, assist at daily Mass, pray the Holy Rosary and spend an hour each day in mental prayer. They also teach in Traditional Catholic schools throughout the nation. The Sisters operate 14 different schools for Kindergarten through Twelfth grade. In addition to teaching and managing the schools, the Sisters prepare children and adults for the Sacraments. They help in parish activities, direct choirs and can be assigned as sacristans. The Congregation’s Mother House is near Persia, Iowa, a small farming community. The Mother House operates a dairy and raises other small farm animals such as chickens, ducks and turkeys. At present, the members of the Congregation total 47 Sisters.
